Ce livre est un fac-similé d'une "traduction nouvelle avec une introduction et des notes" d'Eugène TALBOT, publiée chez Hachette en 1857.La typographie en a été conservée et elle date. Le texte n'est pas assez aéré : les caractères sont un peu écrasés et les interlignes rapprochés. Rien de dramatique toutefois. Tout est parfaitement lisible.Quant à la traduction, on prend beaucoup de plaisir à la lire. Lucien de Samosate se moque, certes, des moeurs de son temps, mais sans être jamais acerbe ou agressif.Tout ceci est d'autant plus délectable que l'on ne peut s'empêcher de rapprocher le IIe siècle ap. J.-C. où il écrit et le nôtre, ce qui provoque un sourire intérieur savoureux comme un verre de vieil Armagnac.
